Sculptor Addison Karl, Choctaw and Chickasaw.

Artist Talk - April 26th

Book now for a special event with visiting artist Addison Karl from the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations. Addison is an exceptional sculptor working in bronze and glass, and his phenomenal sculptures are currently on display at the gallery. Currently, he is immersed in the art of glass casting under the tutelage of esteemed master glass artist Giorgio Giuman in Murano, Italy. Venetian glass trade beads played a central role in historical relations between Indigenous people and European settlers, and this history is explored in his exquisite sculptures. We are honoured to exhibit his extraordinary work and welcome him to Bristol this month.Addison will be giving a talk at Rainmaker Gallery on Friday, 26th April from 3-4 PM. Please join us to learn about his deep connection to Chickasaw and Choctaw cultures and his fascinating artistic journey that includes stops in Colorado, Arizona, Washington and Venice. This talk will be followed by a drinks reception with the artist from 4-6 PM.Please email [email protected] to book the event. Rainmaker team at the Venice Biennale

This week, we are thrilled to attend the pre-opening of the Biennale Arte 2024 di Venezia. The 60th edition of this renowned international art exhibition is entitled "Foreigners Everywhere" and features 331 artists from across 80 countries. The 2024 Biennale curator has written that this exhibition focusses on "artists who are foreigners, immigrants, expatriates, diasporic, exiled, or refugees—particularly those who have moved between the Global South and the Global North."We are especially looking forward to seeing the work of Choctaw and Cherokee artist Jeffrey Gibson, who will be exhibiting at the United States pavilion, along with many other talented artists including Nicholas Galanin (Tlingit and Unangax̂), Emmi Whitehorse (Navajo) and Kay WalkingStick (Cherokee). Whilst we are in Venice we will be visting the studio of Addison Karl's and the glass foundry on Murano where he works to create his incredible sculptures. Rainmaker Gallery will be closed while we are in Venice, reopening next Tuesday, April 23rd. Spring Showcase

When we get back, don't forget to stop into see our fantastic,

with the work of four incredible Native artists. This includes the fine art photographer Cara Romero of the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe, Randy L Barton, Diné from Arizona and Cotswold based painter Rick Grimster, a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and sculptor Addison Karl (Chickasaw/Choctaw). This colourful and uplifting show runs until Saturday 18th May and is the perfect way to step into the Spring season.
