Autumn Exhibition Opening!
Join us on Friday 26 September to celebrate Rick Grimster's new exhibition & 80th birthday!

HOMELANDS opening celebration!
Friday 26th September 2025, 5-7pm.
We are delighted to invite you to join us in celebrating the 80th birthday of artist Rick Grimster at the opening of his new exhibition HOMELANDS on Friday 26th September, 5 -7pm.
HOMELANDS celebrates the eightieth year in the life of Muscogee (Creek) artist Rick Grimster. Born to an English mother and a Native American father in 1945, war baby Rick was raised by adoptive parents in the UK.
In this series of acrylic paintings on paper and canvas, Grimster playfully merges abstract impressions of England and America through masterful use of colour, pattern and texture. Together these autobiographical landscapes chart his remarkable passage through time on two continents and his lifelong journey of transformation from adoptee to Indigenous elder.
This exhibition coincides with National Adoption Week, the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the eightieth year of Rick Grimster’s incredible life.
HOMELANDS is a love letter to the people and places that gave life to this extraordinary artist.
"Indigenous perspectives give us hope but also warnings for the future of our planet. Rick Grimster's vibrant landscapes are full of energy and optimism, strikingly overlaid with portent symbols. It's exciting to know he has a new exhibition at Rainmaker Gallery." Rob Del Naja (artist/musician/activist), Massive Attack.
