Colorfields exhibition

'Colourfields 2024' acrylic on paper by Rick Grimster, Mvskoke.
COLORFIELDS
Rainmaker Gallery is delighted to welcome back Mvskoke artist Rick Grimster (b.1945) who burst onto the art scene last year with two hugely successful solo shows.
‘COLORFIELDS’, his third exhibition, juxtaposes his latest works on paper alongside earlier paintings on canvas. Grimster’s unmistakable Indigenous colour sensibility and mastery of texture is ever present, as is his enduring love of the land.
“In these works I try to represent how man has influenced ancient landscapes.” – Rick Grimster
The canvases are rendered in vivid, contrasting colours with expressive brushstrokes that make for charged and dramatic landscapes, whilst the new paintings introduce a more serene palette. Together, these artworks reflect a growing sense of belonging as Grimster embraces his changing identity from adoptee to Indigenous elder.
Rick Grimster is a citizen of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. His birth father, Freeman Marshall (1909-2000), was a Native American GI based in England during World War II.
Rick Grimster’s monumental abstract artworks from the 1970’s are destined for a forthcoming solo exhibition at a museum in the USA.
COLORFIELDS exhibition runs from 27th September - 1 November 2024.
