Gallery Talk with Shaq Koyok

Hear indigenous Temuan artivist speak about his art, life and activism.

Wednesday 26th November 2025, 11am.

Join us this Wednesday, 26th November for a gallery talk with Shaq Koyok, an award-winning Temuan Indigenous artivist from Malaysia.

Shaq will share stories from his Temuan upbringing, exploring the meaning of sustainable living among the Orang Asli (Indigenous peoples of Malaysia) and how these values shape both his art and his activism.

Shaq’s work blends traditional Temuan artistic practice with the lived trauma of witnessing environmental destruction—creating thought-provoking pieces that raise awareness of urgent issues.

A tireless advocate, Shaq Koyok stands on the front-lines of Indigenous rights movements in Malaysia and champions climate justice at international conferences. He is currently collaborating with the Artivist Network at COP30 in Belém, Brazil.

If you would like to meet Shaq and hear his important message please RSVP [email protected]

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!

HOMELANDS exhibition

untitled diptych, acrylic on canvas by Rick Grimster.

If you have not yet had the pleasure of viewing Rick Grimster’s incredible new exhibition HOMELANDS, head over to Rainmaker Gallery soon.

HOMELANDS, celebrates the eightieth year in the life of this extraordinary artist. In his most recent series of acrylic paintings, Grimster playfully merges abstract impressions of England and America through masterful use of colour, pattern and texture. Together these autobiographical landscapes chart his remarkable passage through time on two continents, his complex, evolving identities and his lifelong journey of transformation from adoptee to Indigenous elder.

"Indigenous perspectives give us hope but also warnings for the future of our planet. Rick Grimster's vibrant landscapes are full of energy and optimism, strikingly overlaid with portent symbols. It's exciting to know he has a new exhibition at Rainmaker Gallery." Rob Del Naja (artist/musician/activist), Massive Attack.
