AWAKE, A DREAM FROM STANDING ROCK

Rainmaker Gallery is excited that the Royal Anthropological Institute returns to Bristol next week with its Film Festival. Now onto its 16th edition, the RAI Film Festival showcases the best ethnographic filmmaking from around the world at
. We are delighted to see that, once again, Native American and First Nations filmmakers, stories, and issues are central to the RAI’s programme of screenings and events.
Highlights include:
Opening Night: Edge of the Knife – Weds 27 March 18:00 A stunning drama about family strife and revenge, set in a fishing community in nineteenth century Haida archipelago (off the coast of Eastern Canada/Alaska). Directed by Helen Haig-Brown and Gwaii Edenshaw, it is the first feature ever to be made in the endangered Haida language.
Awake, A Dream From Standing Rock – Thu 28 March 13:15 With Q&A with Exec Producer Doug Good Feather, one of the leading activists at the #NoDAPL protests.
Thinking Like a Mountain (Thu 28 March 11:00), looking at the Arhuacos community of the Sierra Nevada in Colombia, and Horror in the Andes (Thu 28 March 09:15) which examines the indigenous Peruvian experience through imported pop-culture modes
Conference sessions that examine Indigenous California and Indigenous Cinema: Past Present and Future

EDGE OF THE KNIFE
Rainmaker Gallery is thrilled to see this ground-breaking film screened in Bristol. Edge of The Knife is written and co-directed by Haida artist Gwaai Edenshaw whose unique jewellery has been available from Rainmaker Gallery for many years.We are delighted that the 16th RAI Film Festival will open with Edge of the Knife, and that the film is the recipient of this year's President's Medal!William Mitchell Russ - one of the film's lead actors - will attend this screening to accept the Award, and take part in a Q&A.
