Spring 2020 update

Spring 2020 events update

Medicine Bear by Paulette Quam, Zuni.

Animal Medicine

In these crazy times I find my self drawn to the beauty and wisdom of the natural world. Since the time of their creation stories and emergence myths, the Zuni people have paid tribute to the power of fellow animals by creating fetish carvings - power animals hewn from rock. By honouring the animals and acknowledging their special "medicine" or natural gifts, we can nurture these attributes within ourselves. Fetishes remind us of the instinctive wisdom of the natural world and all that we can learn by respecting and living close to nature and observing the ways of animals, birds and spirits.

As we navigate this changing world we can learn much from the ways of Bear and Wolf. Bear medicine brings healing, protection and strength. Bears practise hibernation which reminds us of the value of going within - something we may each need to embrace in the event of self isolation.

Wolf is a natural pathfinder and teacher who gathers information for the benefit of the entire clan. While wolves have distinct individual roles, they remain fiercely loyal to the pack. Such community spirit is essential in the current global crisis. Be like Wolf and look out for friends, family and neighbours who maybe struggling or need some reassurance.

Film screening - cancelled

It will come as no surprise that the screening of

Brighton Festival - cancelled

Yesterday, I learned that the

Gallery hours

Rainmaker Gallery will remain open at usual times throughout the coming weeks and months. If you would like to visit the gallery but are concerned about social distancing, please contact me to make an appointment for your own private visit.

I leave you with some inspiring words that arrived in my inbox this morning:

"And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently. And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal. And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.
